How Do You Troubleshoot A Computer Mic?
Many computers have built-in microphones that allow you to record sound with the use of a sound card microphone port. The sound card inside the computer receives audio input directly from the microphone. Your computer microphone could be producing faulty results or not appear to be working properly. You might have a hardware issue or simply a volume problem. With just a few tests, you can troubleshoot your computer microphone. Check to see if the microphone is selected as the recording device on the computer. Go Start > Run. Type “sndvol32.exe,” and click “OK.” Select “Properties” from the Options menu. Choose “Recording” in the Adjust Volume For box. Click “OK.” The Microphone dialog box will appear. Make sure the check box next to “Microphone” is selected. Open the Sound Recorder tool to see if audio is being recognized by your computer. Go to “Sound Recorder” from the Start menu.
