How Do You Trim Dead Palm Fronds?

0

Palm trees are a wonderful addition to any garden or yard. They do require trimming of the fronds in order to be as healthy as possible, but this is a fairly easy task to do. Trimming the palm of dead fronts will help it live to a healthy old age. There are several ways to go about removing dead fronds. Check to see if the frond is indeed dead. A dead palm frond is not firmly rooted into the palm, so a gentle pull can bring it right out of the plant. If gentle pulling does not work, use a small pair of gardening scissors and trim off fronds that are close to the bottom and already completely brown. Trim the dead fronds to within 2 inches of the trunk. Keeping 2 inches will help prevent disease. Use a ladder or extension saw to reach higher fronds.
