How Do You Treat Patellofemoral Pain?

0

• Decrease the loading of the patellofemoral (PF) joint by avoiding activities which worsen the pain. • Ice the painful area aggressively with larger ice packs, damp towel coverings for the packs, and a bit of compression with an ACE wrap or equivalent. Ice about 10-15 minutes each session with the knee elevated (if possible). • Start a gentle flexibility program while not bearing weight on your painful leg. Lie down and practice straightening your knee completely, then slowly bending your knee as much as you can without significantly increasing the pain. Use anti-inflammatory medications, as long as they are safe for you, to help control the pain systemically.
