What is Hirschsprung’s Disease? Normally, the brain communicates with the intestines by nerve cells that can be found in the intestinal walls. These cells tell the intestine to keep food moving through as it is being digested. However, some people are born without these important cells and, as result, food gets to a certain point in the intestine and then it just stops completely, which causes the stool to collect in the colon and expand, leading to life-threatening consequences.
