A medical professional should evaluate a serious burn from a heat source such as an oven heat element as soon as possible. Step away from the oven heat element to avoid further burning. Do not apply water, burn cream or ointment to the burn injury. Serious burns will develop burn blisters on the burned area. Do not disturb or try to break these burn blisters. Use a dry sterile bandage to loosely cover the burned area. This will prevent further irritation, pressure or damage to the burn injury. If you do not have a sterile bandage, a clean cloth will do. You can cover large areas with a cotton bed sheet. Be sure that the cloth does not stick to the burn injury. Seek medical treatment immediately. You can t
