How Do You Treat A First- Or A Second-Degree Burn?
When you get a first or a second degree burn, it is important to know how to properly treat it in order to minimize the pain from the burn and heal it as quickly as possible. Get away from whatever is causing the burn as quickly as possible. This should be instinctual, but many people forget to get away. If you are on fire, put the fire out, either with water or by stopping, dropping, and rolling around on the ground. Remember, you can get a burn both from contact with really hot objects and from contact with really cold objects. For a burn from a hot object, place the burn area under cold running water to try to cool the area and stop the burning sensation. For a burn from a cold object (often frostbite, although contact with dry ice or liquid nitrogen also causes burns), it is best to use lukewarm water to warm the region to a reasonable temperature to avoid going into shock. If the burn is still hot after several minutes, you can use burn ointments or aloe vera to cool the burn area
