Diabetic emergencies can occur if the blood sugar in the body becomes too high or two low. Diabetic emergencies can be caused by various factors including taking the wrong dose of insulin or not eating enough. There are a few types of diabetic emergencies, such as a negative insulin reaction and a diabetic coma. As either condition progresses, an individual may become unconscious. A diabetic emergency can lead to a coma and possibly death if it is not recognized and treated quickly. Recognize the symptoms of a diabetic emergency. The symptoms may vary and it may be difficult to distinguish between an insulin reaction and the start of a diabetic coma.
