How Do You Treat 1St Degree Burns?
A burn is an injury to the tissue of the body and is classified according to the amount of area the burn affects and how deep it is. First degree burns are usually red and sensitive and don’t require medical attention. These burns harm only the outer layer of the skin and are usually the result of staying in the sun too long, touching a hot object, or scalding the skin with something like steam. If the burn covers more than two inches of the skin, the burn victim should seek immediate medical attention. Hold the burn under cold running water or immerse in cold water for 5-10 minutes. If there is no running water available, apply a cold compress to the burn. Cover the burn with a sterile non-adhesive bandage, especially if the burn might rub against clothing or something that will irritate it. Take aspirin or an over-the-counter medication to help reduce pain and inflammation.
