How Do You Transplant Bedding Plants To Packs?
Many gardeners grow their own bedding plants, starting them indoors in the late winter. Tiny seeds are usually started in a seeding flat and then transplanted into packs after they germinate. Packs provide separate soil and space for each seedling, allowing it to grow a more advanced root system that won’t entangle with that of an adjacent plant. Seedlings should be transplanted as soon as possible after the first true leaves emerge. Seedlings are more injury resistant when transplanted at this stage of growth. Fill the planting packs to the top with sterile soilless potting mix. Smooth the top, but don’t flatten or compact the mix. Poke a hole 3/4 inch deep in the center of each pack. Push the end of the Popsicle stick into the flat about 1/4 inch away from the seedling stem, digging under the roots and lifting the roots and seedling out of the plant. Steady the seedling while you lift it out on the Popsicle stick by gently grasping the true leaves between your thumb and forefinger of
