How Do You Translate Autocad Drawings Using Trados, Wordfast Or Dejavu (CAD With CAT)?

Translating CAD drawings is not an easy task, and even more if your source or target languages are Unicode encoded like Chinese, Japanese, Hindi, Hebrew, Arabic, Korean, etc. If you are a professional translator and want to use your CAT tool to translate a CAD drawing, you may find yourself in a dead-end. This article describes a way to work with non-unicode languages. Open the DXF file directly with MS Word. Write down the encoding type that appears in MS Word dialog window (Unicode or UTF-8) Search the acdbMtext word Find the next ” 1″ (two spaces and number 1) Find the text just below the ” 1″ tag Mark the text as “translatable”. (If you’re using Wordfast, first select all text and mark it as “tw4winExternal” style and then use “Translatable” style for the text found.) Repeat the process from step 2 as many times as needed. Sometimes this task could be exhausting when the drawing contains a lot of text. Save a copy of your DXF and test it on AutoCAD. Save it using the same encoding
