How Do You Train Older Pointing Dogs?
Humans have used pointing dogs for centuries to flush game in the field. The term “pointing dog” refers to any breed of dog that finds hidden game in the field by pointing its muzzle toward the prey, allowing the hunter to harvest more game than he would on his own. Most pointing dogs are started at a young age, although it is possible to train older dogs to point. Place a buckle collar and leash on your dog and start teaching it simple obedience commands. Commands such as sit, lie down, stay, come and heel are necessary for your pointing dog to learn as it will need to mind you while out in the field.
