How Do You To See Classical Music For Free In D.C?

Some say that classical music is a dying genre. I beg to differ. There are wonderful classical music concerts all over the metropolitan area almost daily. Although some are national companies, touring groups, or renowned musicians, there are many who will perform for free. Young and old can enjoy these events. Where to start? Museums have many free classical concerts. The National Gallery of Art has a weekly concert series in the main museum on Sunday nights. It runs from September until approximately June. Recitals, orchestras, opera singers, you name it, they have it. Seating is first come, first-served and it fills up quickly. The Phillips Museum hosts a series of Sunday afternoon concerts. You do have to pay to get into the museum but the concerts are free. These concerts fill up fast since the museum is small. The National Academy of Arts and Sciences has a series of about five free concerts a year. They have a huge auditorium in Foggy Bottom but lines are long so get there early.
