First, though I’ve answered this question before, you pull the spark plugs out, you pull the points cover off. second you pull the pushrod tube clips from the front two pushrod tubes and collapse the tubes so that you can watch the lifters. Then you pull the timing plug. Turn the motor over either by using the kickstarter, or if it has no kickstarter, by jacking it up and putting it in gear so that you can turn the motor over with the tire, till the slot in the flywheel is visible in the hole and the two front lifters are at their lowest position. That is the proper timing position. At this point you loosen the two screws that hold the timing plate and and while holding the points cam(The little sleeve that the points ride on) hard against the springs, turn the plate till the points begin to open. Then tighten the two screws and you are in time.
