How Do You Tighten The Drive Belt On A Maytag Washing Machine?
When your turn on your Maytag washing machine and the wash cycle will start but the washer container never agitates or spins, the drive belt on the motor is too loose. Once the drive belt begins to stretch and loosen, you’ll hear a screeching sound from under your washer and may even smell burning rubber. Unplug the washer and pull it away from the wall. Push on the top of the washer to lean it against the wall or place it completely flat on its back. Locate the large motor on the front, outer edge of the underside of the washer. The belts run from this motor to the center washer container drive and to the water pump. Locate the motor mounts above the washing machine motor. Four bolts tighten into a track above the motor. Unscrew the bolts with a wrench. Push the motor out toward the edge of the washer to tighten the belt. Don’t make the belt too tight; it should give only about 1/4 inch when you press it. Tighten the motor mount bolts. Set the washer back flat on the ground.
