How Do You Tie Trailing Fishing Hooks?
Some anglers frequently try to increase their odds of catching fish by using more than one fly at a time. In fly-fishing, the strand of monofilament connecting a second fly is generally called a “dropper” strand. One of the most common dropper rigs involves fishing a nymph behind a dry fly. Tie the dry fly to the end of the leader using an improved clinch knot. Directions for tying the improved clinch knot can be found in the “Resources” section below. Attach a dropper strand of monofilament to the dry fly by tying an improved clinch knot around the bend of the hook. Tie another improved clinch knot to attach the second fly, generally a nymph pattern, to the free end of the dropper strand. Apply floatant to the dry fly to ensure it floats well despite being connected to a nymph pattern that will be fished below the surface.
