How Do You Tie A Surgeons Knot?
The surgeons knot is a reliable knot, great for attaching a thick leader to a smaller fishing line. Properly tied, this knot will test to over 90 percent of line strength. Tying this knot may sound a little confusing, so refer to the illustrations. The advantage of this knot is that it will allow the fisherman to reel the leader into the rod guides without hanging up. Grab your fishing line and get started. Lay out the fishing line and the leader parallel to each other. Let the fishing line overlap the leader 6 to 8 inches. Grasp the lines as one and tie an overhand knot, pulling tag ends all the way through. Pull both tag ends through the overhand knot again. Hold both ends of both lines tight and pull the lines until the knot tightens. Trim tag ends close to the knot.
