How Do You Tie A Figure Of Eight Stopper Knot?
A figure of Eight knot is a simple stopper knot that dinghy sailors use on the jib sheets. It’s simple to tie, does not jam and is easily undone so it has many uses off the boat as well as on. For non-sailing folk, the jib sheet is the rope which controls the jib sail. So you have rope running through a hole or a fairlead and you don’t want it to come out again if it is pulled backwards. You need a stopper knot. There are plenty to choose from, many are quite complicated and decoraive with exotic sounding names such as the Turk’s Head. In this case though, you want a temprary fix so that you can recover the rope and use it for another rpose later. Begin by passing the rope through making a loop in the end of the rope. Then make a second loop underneath, creating a figure of eight shape (hence the name of the knot). Now bring the working end of the rope back through the first loop and pull it tight – job done!
