How Do You Throw An Arrow The Length Of A Football Field?
As kids we used to make our own arrows using bamboo cane and playing cards for fins. We could use a length of string and throw these arrows the length of a football field. Make your own arrow from bamboo and playing cards or use a cheap target practice arrow. Cut a 1/8″ deep by 1/4″ wide notch into the arrow’s shaft 1″ below the fins. Take a length of light rope that is twice the length of the arrow and tie a simple overhand knot at one end. Lay the rope knot across the notch on the arrow’s shaft. The rope should be at 90 degrees to the shaft. Hold the knot on the arrow and wrap the rope around the arrow and over the top of the rope on the notch. This traps the rope in the notch and the knot prevents the rope from slipping. Adjust the available length of rope by wrapping around your right hand.
