How Do You Throw A Split Finger Like Roger Clemens?
There are generally three ways for a pitcher to get hitters out. They can overpower them by throwing hard. They can keep hitters off balance by change the speed of their pitches. Or, they can fool hitters with movement. Roger Clemens uses a split finger fastball to do a little of each of these things. Know what a split finger fastball does. A split finger fastball is like a regular fastball, only it does not move quite as fast and it sinks downward. Its speed can still be overpowering, but because it is slower than a regular fastball, hitters may have trouble adjusting to it. Grip the split finger fastball like Roger Clemens. To do this you first need to find the horseshoe of the seam–part of the seam shaped like a horseshoe. Once you find it, point the open end of the horseshoe towards yourself. Position your index finger on one side of the seam and your middle finger on the other side of the seam. Your fingers should not actually touch the seam, but instead be right next to it. Curl
