How do you think modern British society today compares with society in Syria?similarities and differences?
If you’re looking for similarities, there aren’t a whole lot. Syrian society, even among the more Westernized upper-classes, is still fairly traditional. In Britain, you’ve got the presence of nuclear-families (parents and children) which of course is pretty different from Syrian society, where the family unit includes grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and so on. Obviously all of these are present within any family in the world, but unlike in Britain and the West, aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, etc. will often live together (usually in the same house or apartment building). Family is, in Syria, considered to be the building block of society and the concept of the “individual” really doesn’t exist as it does in the West. In Britain, a person is considered an individual first and foremost. In Syria, a person is simply an extension of his or her family, and his/her actions are primarily meant to benefit the family unit as a whole, rather than just the individual. Additionally,
