How do you think Huggy Bear became such an icon for cool?
Antonio Fargas: I didn’t play the role to be cool – I looked at it as a guy who’s trying to survive in a hostile world and a black man in America had to do certain kinds of things to survive. How much were these roles a blessing and a curse? PMG: We all know that looking back only gets you into an accident because you’re going to run into something without seeing it. So being present becomes more and more the exercise the older you get. That being said this was an opportunity that came along and we did what we did – you live your life and you move on. DS: I once asked Joanne Woodward ‘what’s the secret to acting?’ and Paul Newman said ‘whatever you do, just do it.” There’s not enough time to consider how life could have been different, it’s just a pointless exercise.
