Cognitive theory is focused on the individual’s thoughts as the factor that predicts or determines what emotions or behavior the individual will embrace or engage in. Without these thoughts it would be impossible to experience emotions or behaviors. Therefore thoughts must take place before anything else can. These need to meet these needs can be compared to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs in that he to proposed that unless certain needs were first met, a human being could not proceed to higher levels of functioning. Only after physical needs such as hunger were met, would an individual be able to achieve.
