When the dryer does not operate when you press the start button, you may have a faulty door switch. The door switch closes the electrical circuit when you close the dryer door. If the switch is faulty, the circuit remains open and the dryer will not operate. The best way to diagnose the door switch is to test the dryer door switch with an ohm meter. An ohm meter measures the amount of electrical resistance in an electrical component. Unplug the dryer power cord from the dryer electrical outlet. Slide the blade of a putty knife between the front panel and top panel of the dryer four inches from the front corner. Push the blade over the retaining clip that secures the top panel while lifting up on the corner. Lift the top panel to release the opposite corner and raise the top panel back toward the rear wall.
