If you see them live or in pictures, how can you tell whether you are looking at a sea lion or a seal? Read on for a few pointers. Look at their ears, if possible. Sea lions have flaps over their ear holes, but seals do not. Watch them move on land. Sea lions can support themselves on their front flippers and “walk” with them. Seals can’t do this. Listen to them. Sea lions are more vocal than seals; their cries are more frequent and louder. Watch their group behavior. Sea lions are more aggressive and territorial than seals.
