How Do You Tear Down A Barn?
Tearing down a barn is not necessarily as big a job as it may seem. Whether you are tearing down a barn on your own property, or making a business out of tearing down old barns for profit, here’s how. Look at the barn and decide whether you want to salvage any hand-hewn beams or old boards that may be valuable for recycling or selling. Some old barns just need to be torn down to prevent accidents or a fire. But some contain antiques such as handmade iron latches and hinges that can be valuable. Use hammers and a pinch bar (U-shaped tool that has a claw hammer end) for tearing down a barn that has wood you want to salvage. Tear it down in the reverse order that it was built. Remove windows first, then floors, then moldings, then interior walls and roof covering. Leave the structural beams as you tear out exterior walls.
