Teach yourself to knit rather than pay for expensive lessons. If you’re good at reading and interpreting directions, you’ll have no trouble. Buy your yarn at a store like Michaels, Hobby Lobby, or any place that sells inexpensive yarn. As a beginner, you don’t need to spend a lot of money to teach yourself to knit. Red Heart yarn is one of the least expensive. Make sure to get bamboo or plastic needles. Aluminum needles will be too slippery for a beginner. You may purchase either straight or circular needles. Circular needles are good because it isn’t as easy to loose stitches as it is on the straight needles. Decide which method of knitting you’d like to teach yourself. The continental method is much faster. Do your research before buying a book. Buy a book to teach yourself to knit. My favorite is “Reader’s Digest” Knitters Handbook.
