Most young children love to scribble. However, if you’d like to harness this creativity to teach your child to draw, you’ll want to take specific steps and be aware of her cognitive development, while encouraging her to scribble often. Children typically follow a general pattern for how they draw their surroundings, though, so don’t stress if you feel like your child isn’t progressing as you’d like. Encourage a child to draw inside the lines of a coloring sheet. Being able to somewhat color in the lines is an early indicator that a child is aware of how his hands control the colors on the page.
