How Do You Teach Young Children About First Aid?
Children grow quickly, and with each passing year, so does their curiosity about the world around them. Since cuts and scrapes and bruises are a common occurrence for most young children, it is important that they learn about first aid at an early age. Teach them how to find and use a first aid kit so when an accident happens they can help you to mend the damage. Step 1 Educate your child about the tools she will need to clean and bandage a cut. Identify each “tool” in her “first aid tool box” and explain how to properly use it. Step 2 Agree to pretend that she has just fallen and cut her knee. Explain that she must clean her hands of any germs and then follow by cleaning the cut and surrounding area as well. Using a alcohol wipe, instruct her to clean her hands. Next, use a cotton ball to clean the cut and surrounding area with peroxide or a peroxide-based anti-bacterial solution.
