This activity is a fun one because not only are students learning it involves candy. Students will be learning about decay and so this is a good activity to use whenever talking about the history of the geologic earth or when telling students how we get dates on the different rock layers. Have students place the 100 pieces of candy into their groups tupperware container. Make sure that the lids are on tight. Next have the students shake their container for 30 seconds to a minute. Students will then open their container to see how many pieces of candy are broken. Students will count the number of broken candies and take them out of the container. Students will record that they started out with 100 pieces and after so many “years” they had a new number of pieces. Students will then put the lid back on the container and shake it again.
