How Do You Teach Students About Light And Reflection?

Here is a little activity that will show students that light always reflects in a straight line and at the angle of incidence. I will admit that the first time I heard of this activity I got it wrong but soon realized why. The first thing that you will do is ask the students a question. Set up a scenario in which they are standing in front of a mirror on a flat wall and that they can only see their reflection from their shoulders up. Ask them if moving further away from the mirror will cause them to see more of their reflection. Most students will say yes that in order to see more of the reflection they must increase the distance between themselves and the mirror. Have the students get into groups and then give them a small mirror and some tape. Tell the students to tape up the mirror on a flat wall and see if their theory is correct. Remind the students to be careful. The students will find that no matter how far away they stand they can never see more of their reflection. Explain to
