How Do You Teach Math Word Problems?
• Basics: Word Problems are usually applications mathematical concepts being applied. You must figure out what type of Word Problem the question is. (Work, Age, Projectile Motion, etc…) Once you figure out the concepts and skills needed to solve this problem, you must make sure you know the concepts and skills well enough to be able to apply them in a Word Problem. • Steps: For most skilled mathematicians, we can solve a Word Problem in just a few steps without going through a whole long process, but that takes practice. You must first break down the Word Problem into it’s parts. Write down what is given and what conclusions can be made using the information and how can it help to answer the question.
