How Do You Teach Kids Bicycle Safety?
Many children delight in hitting the road on their bikes. While this common childhood pastime is a healthy one, it also can be quite dangerous if proper precautions aren’t followed. Encourage your students to bike safely by educating them on bike safety and showing them how to reduce their chances of sustaining an injury while cycling. Present students with bicycle injury statistics. Through the use of statistics, you can demonstrate to your students that bicycle injuries happen often. List some startling bike injury statistics, such as those listed in the resources section, on the classroom chalkboard. Explain to students that by following bike safety procedures they can avoid becoming one of these statistics. Introduce safety equipment. Bring a helmet and pads into the room and show students how each piece should be used for optimal bike safety.
