How Do You Teach Kids About Safety?
We all want to keep our kids safe. From a very early age, we childproof our homes to keep newly-mobile babies away from hot stoves, electrical outlets and other dangers. When kids get older, it’s even more important to teach them strategies for keeping themselves safe. Here are some fun learning activities you can use, either at home or in the classroom. Teach kids to “Stop, Drop and Roll!” if their hair or clothing catches on fire-this can be a lot of fun for kids to practice. When you are done with the dropping and rolling, talk about fire prevention and other aspects of fire safety. Look for books, coloring books and online games that deal with fire safety. Make an escape plan to be used in case of a fire or other emergency. Talk about the exits from your building, how you will reach them, and where you will meet up once you’ve gotten out.
