How Do You Teach First Grade Reading?
“Hi, my name is Sandy Springer. I have 14 years of teaching experience. I have taught first grade through teaching adults. I have a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a master’s degree in English as a Second Language. I also hold a Spanish certification for grades K through 12. Today, I’m going to talk to you about how to teach reading to first graders. First grade is one of the most important years in school. I remember when I taught first grade. It’s such a critical year. They learn so much. So to teach reading, the best way is to start out by teaching them sight words. Sight words are high frequency words. Picture clues are very, very important when teaching a child to learn to read.
