Consistency is important with dog training. Even though you may not mind your dog jumping on you, it is important to teach a dog good manners for the sake of visiters or children. It is easier to teach proper manners from the beginning than it is to change negative behaviors later. Anytime a dog or puppy jumps up on you it is important to knock him down followed by praise. Be sure noone ever encourages the dog to jump up because this will send mixed messages & confuse the dog. When a dog attempts to jump on you, tell the dog “OFF” and block the dog’s attempt at jumping with a knee to the chest. For a small dog use your foot or shin. I’m not saying to kick or hurt the dog, simply block his attempts with your body. You may also grab his paws and push him off balance if it’s a big dog.
