How Do You Teach Diversity In Elementary School?
Young hearts and minds are easily influenced and are like compressed sponges waiting to soak up pools of information. Introducing diversity in these elementary stages is key to having a child that is socially adjusted in an ever-changing world. Encourage children to ask questions. Curiosity is natural at these stages and should children should be encouraged to be as curious as they wish. Avoid over-correcting children for comments and questions that are not politically correct. It is normal for them to be somewhat ignorant of things that may offend. Invite different guest speakers in to give presentations. These presentations can cover a wide range of topics doing with culture and diversity. Having a change from the same person in front of the students may spark them to pay attention in greater detail to what is being taught.
