Teaching children with oppositional defiant behaviors can be especially challenging. These children are often negative and will defy authority in any circumstance that they are able. It is also not unusual for them to blame others for their mistakes. The nature of these student’s actions make it likely that they will argue or rebel over anything that is presented to them. However, with proper preparations and presentations it will be possible for you to break through the barriers and teach these children. Involve the children in setting rules and goals. This will give them some ownership over these things and avoid making you the target. This can be done using a brainstorming session where everyone is welcome to make suggestions. For rules that are necessary such as not hurting others and being respectful, involve the children by having them explain what the rules mean and what should be done if they are not followed. For educational goals that are mandatory, the students can help set
