A student who is labeled at risk may be facing a multitude of challenges. Some common identifiers for at risk include socioeconomic status, unstable home environments, or a physical or emotional disability that forces that child to deal with extra challenges. A child who is at risk may need extra attention and extra patience but can be just as successful as their counterparts in school. Create a strong relationship. A student who is at risk may have trouble trusting others. Therefore, it is critical that the teacher spend some time creating a relationship that involves mutual respect and cooperation.
