How Do You Teach An Infant Sign Language?
I have a 9 month old daughter. About two months ago I decided to start teaching her sign language so we could better communicate her needs. Everyday I would show her the same sign for milk and I was getting discouraged because she never showed any interest in signing herself. So, I stopped signing it and a few days later it was around the time she usually has a bottle and she started signing milk to me! I was amazed and extrememly excited. Never give up – your baby will learn at their own pace. If you do something everyday your baby will pick it up one way or another just give it time. Consistency is key. Refer to some baby signs websites for ideas of what to start with. The two I use are : www.babies-and-sign-language.com/ www.signingbaby.com Start a group in your community with other mothers interested in the same thing.
