How do you teach a child to stand up to bullies in Middle School without sacrificing their Christian value of loving your enemy?
Refer to Romans 12:9-21:
“Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord. On the contrary:
‘If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.’
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
Teach the child to kill the bullies with kindness and to pray for the strength and courage to be the bigger person in the face of adversity.
I have that same problem with my son. In our situation he was coming home crying and thought that he didn’t want to be in that school anymore. I told him to not just look, but pay attention to the bully’s actions and the way he or she is dressed and everything. Because appearance may be deceiving. I told him to consider the bully’s family life and motives for why he is being a bully and love him, befriend him, and continue to be nice to him until the bully finally softens his heart.
John 13:34-35 “And so I am giving a new commandment to you now- love each other just as much as I love you. You strong love for each other will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”
