How Do You Take Agitator Dog Gears Apart?
Direct-drive washing machines use a motor coupler and agitator dogs to rotate the drum and agitator. If the agitator is not moving freely, chances are the agitator dogs need to be replaced. The agitator dog is a combination of a cam and cam ears that sit between the two halves of the agitator. Taking the agitator dog gears apart requires removal of the agitator. Unplug the washing machine power cord from the wall outlet. Open the washing machine lid. Take the top off the agitator. Some agitators have a dispenser top that can be pulled off. Some models require you to pry the top off the agitator with a flat-head screwdriver. Locate the pull handle on the cap inside the agitator. Grab the handle with your hand, and pull the inner cap out of the agitator. Find the bolt securing the agitator to the spline transmission shaft. The bolt is inside, on the middle of the agitator. Remove the bolt with a socket wrench. Grab the agitator with your hands between the tub and the bottom of the agitat
