How Do You Switch To The U.S Med. System After Graduation From A British Med.School?
You need to speak with an individual at AAMC regarding this. If you only do a few years in one system they may not allow your credits to switch and you would have wasted time trying to switch over. You need to find out if the program you are doing would be accredited in the US. My general hunch is it wouldn’t be. Also, if you are just entering, and only do 2 years, you wouldn’t enter as a resident or intern (if allowed), I can guarantee that. It takes 4 years here to be a physician, and be given the status of “intern”, ie cheap labor doctor. My best suggestion is either start in the US system and go all the way through, OR finish in the UK system and transfer your degree over to the US, which is more likely to be allowed. Once you get the degree then you would likely have to start at the intern level, applying as an FMG, or foreign medical graduate, which has its own set of spots in the “match”.
