How Do You Surf In Eastern Asturias, Spain?
Asturias is the central northern region of Spain. Backed by rolling green fields towering cliffs, the region has gorgeous beaches and surf spots. Though it is bigger than neighboring western Asturias, the waves can be difficult to reach as the mountains edge the ocean. It may take some creative maneuvering, but it can be done. And it’ll be well worth it when you do it. Begin at El Mongol. This righthanded reefbreak starts to work at head high and will hold up to a little more than double overhead. It can get crowded when it is big, but the lack of an actual beach reduces the amount of people out in the waves. Watch for strong riptides. Continue on to PeƱarrubia, almost next door to El Mongol. This lefthanded reefbreak works best during rising tides and can reach over 3 meters. Though it can get crowded at points, there are two beaches to either side that offer reefbreaks if PeƱarrubia gets too tight. Count on Rodiles.
