Whether you’re installing an electrical outlet in a new home or upgrading an older home with a new outlet, removing the plastic covering from the wires to connect the new outlet is a must. It’s not difficult to strip the wires if you have the right technique and tools. Make certain that the electrical current is cut off to the area where you’re working before doing anything with the electric system. Remove the heavy plastic casing off the gauge cord that holds several wires. You can use a wire cutter or multipurpose tool to do this. Clamp the large 12- or 14-gauge cord in the appropriate size hole on your wire stripper. Turn the stripper around the plastic gauge cord enough times that it cuts the plastic and you can remove it.
