Fishing line is the link between the fisherman and the fish–it is often forgotten or ignored until it fails when an angler is fighting a trophy fish. Fishing line gets worn and deteriorates with time. It needs to be changed on a regular basis. There are many types of fishing line available today. Regardless of the line type, they all need to be spooled without twisting and with enough pressure so that the line will not “dig in” to the spool. Restring the fishing reel by first removing the old line. Strip off and guide the new line through all of the eyelets on the rod. Affix the new line to the reel’s spool by tying a two- to three-turn uni-knot. Trim the tag end flush with the knot. Set the new line’s spool on the floor when spooling a spinning reel. Determine if the line goes on the spinning reel in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction. The new line must leave its spool in the opposite direction to prevent twisting.
