How Do You Store Square Bales Of Hay Under Visqueen?
At times, hay needs to be stored outside for a considerable length of time. If this is the case, it is best to cover the hay bales with Visqeen, a popular brand of plastic sheeting that will keep moisture out of the bales. Moisture in your bales can cause mold, reduce the nutritional value of they hay and be unhealthy to feed to your livestock. Decide on the number of bales per layer based on total number of bales and area available to stack the hay. Place the bottom layer of hay bales on skid pallets to keep them directly off the ground. The first layer of bales should all be placed lengthwise in rows. Place a second layer of bales on top of the first, stacked in the opposite direction. Continue to repeat this stacking order, reversing the direction of each layer until all the hay is stacked. This stacking pattern will help ensure that the stack of hay does not fall over. Cut a piece of Visqueen long enough to go over the top of the bales and hang down the entire height of the stack.
