How Do You Store Mountain Laurel Seeds?
Properly harvesting and saving mountain laurel (Kalmia latifolia) seeds is a simple process which will allow you to easily propagate your own mountain laurel plants. Collect ripe mountain laurel seeds pods. Depending upon where you live these may fully ripen and dry out in either September or October. However, the small round seed pods which look a bit like dried out flowers persist long after they initially ripen. Allow collected seed pods to dry at room temperature for two to four weeks. It’s best to keep them in a paper envelope or brown paper bag as they will open up and begin to spill their seeds as they dry completely. Once pods are completely dried they should open at the top and the tiny seeds can be shaken out onto a piece of paper or into a bag. Seeds may then be cleaned by pouring them down a creased piece of paper as the seeds will move more quickly down the folded paper than the chafe.
