How Do You Store Marine Deep Cycle Batteries?
In colder climates, marine deep cycle batteries must be properly stored for the winter. Leaving a marine deep cycle battery in an unheated boat during the long, cold winter will significantly reduce the life span of the battery. The following steps are easy but necessary to maximize the life of the battery and preserve your investment. Carefully disconnect and remove the battery from the boat. Clean the battery cables with a soft wire brush, and then spray the leads with penetrating oil. Wipe the leads dry with a paper towel or absorbent cloth. Clean the battery terminals with the wire brush, and clean off the exterior battery case. Wipe a small amount of grease or petroleum jelly to the battery terminals to prevent oxidation. Fully charge marine deep cycle batteries before storing it for the winter. It may be necessary re-charge the battery periodically during storage to maintain a full charge. Store the battery in cool, dry location. Do not place the battery directly on a concrete fl
