How Do You Store Bulk Flour & Rice?

0

Whether you’re reserving food for emergency purposes or you simply prefer saving money by buying in bulk, you will need to know how to properly store food. Even products that aren’t considered perishable, like rice and flour, can become rancid, stale or infested by insects if not stored correctly. If you’re storing only a small quantity of rice or flour, it can be kept in a tightly-sealed container in your freezer. Flour can last six to eight months, and even up to a year, when stored correctly. Rice can last for years in the appropriate conditions. Divide the rice and flour into large Ziploc bags or 1-gallon, food-grade storage bags. Freeze the bags of rice and flour for 24 to 48 hours to kill any bugs or insect eggs. Line the buckets with 5-gallon, food-grade storage bags. Pour the bags of rice into one bucket and the flour into the other. Tie or seal the bags tightly, pushing out as much air as possible. Cover the buckets and make sure the lids are tightly sealed. Store the buckets
