You must activate your copy of Windows Vista to use it after the 30-day grace period. If you let the countdown timer run out without activating it, Vista will not let you use even the most basic of programs on your computer. You will only have access to the file system to either copy your files to another computer or enter a Vista key to activate your copy. There is, however, a little trick that Microsoft developed to extend the timer to another 30 days without activating. Wait for the timer to get to one or two days remaining on the countdown before you perform this command. Boot up your computer and click on the “Start” button located in the lower left corner of the screen. Right-click the “Computer” link and click “Properties” to check the countdown timer. Click onto the start button again when it is time to re-arm the timer and type “Cmd” into the search box.
